Review: Rayman Raving Rabbids

by November 20, 2006

Rayman Raving Rabbids does the best job of any title that’s not included with the Wii at showing off just how great the Wii is.

This game is a collection of mini games so if you’re looking for ONLY a racing game keep looking (although there’s racing in this game) and if you’re looking for ONLY a first person shooter keep looking (even though there’s a FPS in this game that’s got great controls) and if you’re looking for a poodle grooming sim then would you be willing to settle for a sheep shearing sim? Because that’s in here too.

The story is thin but gets the job done.
You’re Rayman, you’re out with your little animal friends when the Rabbids come and capture all of you. Your mission (or missions) is to participate in the various games of agility, strength, stamina, intelligence, etc…. in order to win plungers to help you escape.

We’re here to take over your franchise

Now a quick moment to speak about the Rabbids.
They are the best new character(s) in video games this year.
The Rabbids are nuts, they’re funny and crazy and for creatures only able to voice their thoughts by screaming and grunting they do a wonderful job of getting the point across. You can’t help but love these guys.

Back to the game itself.
The best part about the game, aside from the humor is the fact that it has the “just one more event” type of gameplay. Since all of the events don’t last that long there’s always a sense that you can squeeze a few more in before you stop playing.

The games are a little bit of everything, while it’s all sorts of mini games they’re all much different from one another.

There are events where you run by moving the Wiimote as the right foot and the nunchuck as the left, then how fast you raise them up and down is how fast Rayman runs. There’s a racing game that has you riding on some huge beast and you “whip” the Wiimote to make him run faster, there are FPS missions that control perfectly (sure it’s on rails but it’s still the best shooter on the Wii so far). There are also musical games where you have to keep the beat of Rabbids coming down the dance floor in time with the music.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg, there are over 70 games in all, that will have you doing everything with the Wiimote.

Rabbids love the beach

No other game at release shows off everything that the Wiimote can do, for anyone investing in the new console this is the premiere game to add to truly experience everything it can do.

This is a must have title, this is the kind of title that makes people believers in the Wii and all of it’s possibilities. No respectful Wii owner should omit this from their library.

COULD BE HELPFUL WITH ANXIETY BECAUSE

  • Funny gameplay
  • Each mini game lasts last only a few minutes at most keeping your interest
  • Focusing on doing the motions can take your mind off of symptoms

COULD BE UNHELPFUL WITH ANXIETY BECAUSE
  • Motion controls only
  • Cold/numb hands could interfere with the ability to play some of the games well

WHY YOU SHOULD BE PLAYING THIS
Personally this is one of my favorite games on the Wii and some of the most fun I’ve had this generation. I find it a great game for anyone because the humor and controls really do give you something to think about other then panic. The only thing is when you get worked up from exercise that sometimes sets you off. The same thing could happen here because you will work up a sweat when you’re playing for extended periods of time. Other then that I can easily recommend this to anyone with a Wii console.
