Vigil: If Darksiders 2 Sells 4-5 Million Copies, A Sequel Is Possible (Probably…)
Darksiders 3 is possible – if you buy it and so do 5 million other people.
Darksiders 2 Producer Haydn Dalton recently spoke with videogamer.com about the upcoming Darksiders 2 and where the series can go after the second game.
The only people who can really shape if we do [another] Darksiders or not is basically the public[...]
If we come out and it does really well then I think it’s really compelling; we can’t not come out and maybe do something else in the Darksiders franchise.
If [Jason Rubin, President of THQ] sat there and we go and sell 4 or 5 million units, I’m pretty sure he won’t say, ‘Let’s go and do something different now’. Maybe what he might do is turn around and say, ‘We’ll do another Darksiders game, but we’ll try and reduce the scope so that we can make it even higher polished’. Because our scope is huge. Maybe he says, ‘Bring the scope down a little bit, we’ll still do another game but it’s a lot more focused’. That’s not such a bad thing to do either.
Darksiders 2 reportedly has a larger world than the first game, with each of the four zones in Darksiders 2 being the size of the first game’s world. While talking about what they might to for the third title, Dalton stated that they might go for a smaller scope while providing a lot more polish to make it an even higher quality experience than what Darksiders and Darksiders 2 already are.
Darksiders 2 will be released on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 21st, 2012. The Wii U version of the game is set to be released at the launch of the platform.
