Ubisoft Investing To Grow Toronto Branch
The recently created subsidiary Ubisoft Toronto is getting a CA$507 million dollar investment from French publisher Ubisoft. The publisher will be creating 800 new jobs within the team over a 10 year period, in which it hopes to replicate the successes of it’s Montreal counterpart. Ubisoft Toronto has funding from the Ontario government worth CA$263 million dollars over 10 years as well.
Ubisoft Toronto was created in 2009 and has been working on a new Splinter Cell title, rumored to be titled Retribution. The studio is fitted with industry veterans from the Montreal studio. Jade Raymond, former Producer on Assassin’s Creed and former Executive Producer on Assassin’s Creed II, has been given the responsibility of heading up the Toronto team.
“We are, in a way, applying the same recipe,” says Yannis Mallat, CEO of Ubisoft Montreal. Furthermore, Mallat stated that “We’ve been sending over experienced, senior people from Ubisoft Montreal as a guarantee that they immediately get traction and speed and knowledge in place so that they can recruit the best people.”.
Although details are sparse about the new Splinter Cell title, it is tentatively slated for a 2012 release, it’s possible we will see more of the title next month at E3.
