Nintendo Is Working On A Next Generation Handheld
Hoping for a redesign? You’re out of luck.
Thinking about waiting for a 3DS revision? Think again.
When talking to IGN, Miyamoto discussed the 3DS and was asked about the recent rumor that a 3DS XL was coming. “I really feel like I’m satisfied with the 3DS hardware as it is. I feel like it’s the best for this generation”. Furthermore, Mr. Miyamoto went on to say that they have already started thinking about the next generation of portables. ”What we’re thinking about right now is probably going to be for a future generation of handheld.”
This isn’t uncommon for Nintendo, as they have stated many times in the past that as soon as a platform is released, the company starts conceptualizing and researching for their next console.
However, what might be uncommon is the lack of a redesign for the 3DS. Nintendo’s history has always shown us that they like to bring out hardware revisions to prolong the life cycle of their portable line. It’s also strange considering people have been wanting a revision with a better screen resolution and a second analog stick, especially given that the Circle Pad Pro is now available.
Maybe next E3? We’ll see.
