Sometimes things don’t go as you expected.

Ever have one of those days? You know, one of those days?

We had one of those at Panicgamer and now I’m writing this in response.

Earlier today we came across an article on Nintendo Universe that featured misquoting Randy Pitchford about his take on the Nintendo Wii U controller and because the misquote was in the title we thought there’s no way that it could be done any other way but intentionally so I called them out.

Oh also add in the fact that today I decided to change my editorials to something more snazzy, The Truth (yeah it’s got a ring to it right?)

So I wrote the story and then emailed the site’s owner about what’s going on, here’s what happened:

I couldn’t help but run across your quote from Randy Pitchford about the Wii U today while I was checking out some gaming communities. Is there a reason you went with the sensationalistic title that doesn’t correctly detail what Pitchford said? Hope to hear from you soon,

So I’m all set to hear back from him like “I need hits” or “screw you!”

No, I get:

Having watched GameSpot’s interview again to verify what I transcribed, in this instance I legitimately missed his second “from Nintendo” comment to close the line “Of all the controllers, forget about the Wii U or the Wii, it’s the best shooter controller I’ve ever played with from Nintendo.” This has now been amended this within the original article.

In any case, as I’m sure you already understand, Nintendo Universe serves as a home to provide timely content aimed toward fans dedicated to the Nintendo system. In such regard, to our readers, many of whom have long followed the company’s consoles, the title is within context and isn’t deliberately misconstrued.

As with the Wii Remote, it signals a considered, innovative input device that will, hopefully, introduce plenty of new ideas within an otherwise stagnant industry, and is a positive comment ahead of the platform’s reveal at E3 2012 in just two weeks time.

Incidentally though, I wish that you would have awaited my response before creating ‘The Truth’ category on your website to house a single post under which you isolate and criticise my site. Sensationalism, although not which I intended, is rife across the entire medium, and to single me out individually amidst this, when you haven’t seemingly written such critique before, seems unjust.

Kind regards,

So yeah, I know some people are saying “but he could have just said that after getting caught” and to you I say I expect better from you guys. I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt that it was a mistake and I should have made sure it was a mistake before I went off and did my article. At the very least I should have given it a few hours.

I pulled my original article and putting this one up. This is not a policy I’ll be doing often but because I didn’t take the correct channels today I’m doing this one to even the score.

Panicgamer prides itself for being honest with it’s readers, even when one of us makes a bit of a faux pas.
