The Truth: During Steam Sales, Everyone Is Agoraphobic.
Steam sales come only twice a year, for me that’s three weeks of not feeling different from everybody else.
Right now it’s day nine of the Steam Summer Sale and I’ve been inside keeping up with the sales on the computer. When I go for a walk down the street or go check on my garden I’m keeping up to date on my cell phone. For the most part I’m at home and keeping tabs on the newest sales each day plus the Flash Deals and Community’s Choices that show every few hours.
MOVE! I need to know the next Steam sale update!
There’s a lot of people doing the same thing I am right now, most of them are home and following these sales. Waiting until the last second to leave for work or not making an extra stop on the way home just to catch the latest deal. Steam sales are a big deal because there’s gigantic discounts on games and people are able to spend wisely and get a lot of gaming for their dollar.
So during Steam Sales, everyone is like me. Everyone is afraid to leave the house so they don’t miss a great deal.
The thing is after the Steam Sale goes away I’ll still be around the house most of the time because I’m agoraphobic.
For those that don’t know about agoraphobia here’s a definition I found on medicinenet that covers it.
That’s what I, and others who have agoraphobia, deal with. For people with agoraphobia it’s hard to keep an active social life. When I’m around people who don’t have agoraphobia and they want to do something it’s usually not at my place so I can’t go because I’m afraid and I miss out on a lot. Agoraphobia makes me different from a lot of people and it’s one of those things you really can’t hide that well, eventually you’re going to have to go away from your “safe zone” and then the cat’s out of the bag.
That is until the Steam Summer and Winter sales, then I’m just like everyone else!
“Hey, want to go out to grab some food?”
“Oh the next deal is up in 30 minutes, why don’t we just make some tacos at my place?”
Another great thing about the Steam sales?
Having agoraphobia, or other forms of anxiety, makes it hard when it comes to employment. It’s hard to get a job when one of the requirements is that it’s in your safe zone of where you can go. That means that money is really tight for a lot of gamers who have agoraphobia and getting the newest releases is difficult and in many cases impossible. The Steam sales make games affordable for people who normally couldn’t get them and that’s huge for people who use games to help them deal with their agoraphobia, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, etc.
And here I’ll wait until the next Steam sale.
So when this Monday rolls around it’s going to be a little hard. The deals will be gone and I’ll be a lot different then everybody once again. That’s ok because the Steam Winter Sale will be here and I’ll be just like everybody else again.
And who knows? With a little hard work, perseverance, and luck maybe I’ll be able to make every day like a Steam sale day.
